Abu al-Muhajir Dinar

d. 682/683 · 7th century

Abu al-Muhajir Dinar was an Umayyad commander and governor of Ifriqiya from about 674 to 681. A freedman client of the governor of Egypt, he replaced Uqba ibn Nafi and sought alliance with the Berbers, winning over the Awraba chief Kusaila, who converted to Islam. When Uqba returned to command he kept Abu al-Muhajir in chains, and both men were killed in Kusaila's ambush near Biskra.
